Child Support

There is more to child support than just one parent paying another. Child support is a parent's obligation to give a child a standard of living consistent with the family unit.

The Child Support Enforcement Division in Kentucky is charged with collecting child support on behalf of custodial parents. Here, in Bullitt County, the Bullitt County Child Support Office collects for custodial parents. In Jefferson County, the Jefferson County Attorney does this collection. These entities are also generally liable for criminal prosecutions associated with non-payment of child support.

Not paying child support is a crime. Failure to pay child support in Kentucky in an amount greater than $1,000.00 is a felony. A parent not receiving support may ask a court to prosecute the delinquent parent for flagrant non-support or ask for contempt of court.

Part of child support is paying for work-related childcare. Also related is the obligation to provide health insurance. Depending on your income, you might be entitled to have a child support obligation changed. Because of all the ins and outs associated with computing child support, our advice at Wantland Law, PLLC is more important than ever.
